Teacher Training: Drop Theory & Coaching Drops $785Purchase required to enroll

This teacher training is set up for four (4) theory classes with each theory class having a matching coaching class. Classes will alternate each week: Weeks 1,3,5,7 will be drop theory. Weeks 2,4,6,8 will be coaching drops/drop theory.

Drop Theory 1

Description: This class is a four-hour intensive study of the theory of drops on vertical apparatuses and is based heavily on the textbook Vertical Apparatus Drop Theory. Students will study the mechanics of drops in all major planes, momentum generation and control, impact force and techniques to mitigate it, wrap and knot theory, change in body trajectory to create multiple drop variations from a single wrap, manipulation of the wrap to create novel drop variations, and training progressions. Students of all skill levels are welcome in this workshop, even if they have not yet performed their first drop. The workshop features a mixture of pen-and-paper study, doll-and-string problem solving, and multiple air and ground options for students of any acrobatic ability to apply concepts learned to their work on the apparatus while maintaining their strength for the duration of the class.

Apparatus: Fabric or rope

Coaching Drop Theory 1

Description: This intensive is a special offering for coaches, instructors, and studio owners that covers proper pacing, detailed and specific wrap placement to avoid pain and bruising, training progressions, skill prerequisites, identification of skill readiness in individual students, spotting techniques, methods for distinguishing and responding to healthy and unhealthy fear/absense of fear, and trauma prevention and management for all vertical apparatus drops in standard planes covered in Drop Theory 1. Coaches will also learn methods for manipulating standard drops to create variations specifically designed to help their students develop particular skills. The focus of this class is on coaching, not on performing the skills discussed, so coaches who would like to take this class do not need to be able to perform any of the skills that the class discusses. They should however, have reasonable familiarity with the apparatus and prior experience coaching students on it.

Note: This class is designed to train teachers and it is continuing education designed for current teachers and coaches and is not sufficient study for those who have never taught before. it will not adequately prepare those students to offer comprehensive instruction on the apparatus. If you would like a certificate of completion to submit to insurance or your studio, one can be provided.
